Audiences are good at figuring out which elements of a work are on which side of the Fourth Wall. No explanation is necessary for why our hero can hear a ringing telephone but not the movie’s soundtrack, or why the space ship is menaced by the Negative Space Wedgie , but not by the opening credits drifting by outside the ship: It’s also a wonderful thing to play with, and that is what Medium Awareness does; the characters acknowledge and interact with elements and conventions of the medium that shouldn’t technically “exist” in-universe. Suddenly the characters can hear the ominous background music or the disembodied narration, they can read the subtitles at the bottom of your screen, and they can tell when it’s almost time for a commercial break. Generally, this awareness is brief; it’s used for a joke or two and then never mentioned again. Used this way, it’s Lampshade Hanging as applied to Paratext. By Michael Wright There are a lot of places you might think of when it comes to guitars. And certainly nobody would question the inclusion of Texas in the list “How, how, how”. It’s been the birthplace of some of the best picking there is. Some big vintage guitar shows, too.

The description matches James Blackton ‘s Humorous Phases of Funny Faces , though academic consensus on whether or not this is a true animated film is disputed.

Yoshiyama did not refer to the film as “animation” though. While speculation and other “trick films” have been found in Japan, it is the first recorded account of a public showing of a two-dimensional animated film in Japanese cinema.

The Bluebook of Pianos is an invaluable handbook for anyone who owns or plans to buy a piano. It gives complete, practical guidelines that explains the workings of both grand and upright pianos.

This is one of the most frustrating questions from the MIJ collector. People often make the mistake of citing the American or European importer as the ‘maker’ of the guitar, when in fact several Japanese manufacturers were producing badged guitars out of their plants and shipping them to America and Europe to sell. Japanese manufacturers made multiple badges at the same plant, many of whom resemble each other closely.

Some manufacturers merged or changed hands over the years which added to the confusion, sometime merging with another maker, only to pick up their name later. In some cases a manufacturer would farm out production to various manufacturers, making it still more difficult to know who made the guitar in your hands. Parts from other guitars would be used in the making of a particular badge for a period of time because it was all the manufacturer had to hand And sometimes, the guitar which is supposed to be an MIJ guitar is actually made elsewhere Korea, Indonesia because production was moved during this period in history.

This page is a work in progress and as new information is revealed it will be added to the list. But I can’t do this alone, folks. See a guitar not listed? In some cases I won’t know because the badge you have may be extremely rare and virtually unknown to even seasoned collectors. And just a quick note:

What I find most interesting of all, is the extremity of opposing views on the early Korean Squier Stratocasters, first produced in Some say they were excellent; some say they were absolute rubbish. Very few guitars have polarised opinion in quite such a fashion on the basis of their quality. Lake Placid Blue was one of just four colours in which the original Korean Squier Strats were available. A quarter of a century is a long time. Not only that, but these inexpensive instruments have often changed hands numerous times.

This leaves us in a situation where very often, the only component we can pretty unequivocally establish as being original to a specifically serial numbered Strat, is the neck. It is, however, very difficult indeed, if not completely impossible, to read any truth into this notion, other than the fact that one or two hardware components, such as the machineheads, were from a common source.

Here are the numerous reasons why the theory seriously struggles to hold up… When Korean Squier production started, the Japanese FujiGen Gakki factory’s need for its own Strat parts did not evaporate. If FujiGen still had a use for their Strat parts, it’s difficult to see why they’d send them to a well established Korean factory which was quite capable of manufacturing its own. The style used on the ’87 MIKs bottom was devoid of this lip.

Aug 19,  · Perhaps one of the biggest talking points regarding the Fender company’s history through the latter half of the s, is the move in production of the Squier guitar range from Japan to .

The Japanese are, as many of you know, masters at copying—as these guitars testify. In fact, the new Fender USA management guys “almost cried” when they traveled to Japan and saw the quality. Here is what happened: In CBS decided to sell Fender and finally, an investment group led by William Bill Schultz bought it in the month of March for twelve and a half million dollars. Bad news though, the sale did not include production facilities in Fullerton, California.

Thus USA guitar production ceased between late till October of until the new factory was built in Corona, California. When the Corona plant was started up, only the Vintage Reissue Stratocaster models were first produced between late through The accuracy of these Reissues is amazing. Even the Fender logo is the correct for this year. Once again, the Japanese detailing is amazing. Even the routing on the Tele bodies is accurate. Also, these guitars play only as good as they have been set-up.

Nearly everyone, but not all, that I have bought needed to be completey re-setup. I have owned, and still own, many of both the MIJ and CIJ guitars and when setup correctly and rewired, they can play, feel, and sound as good if not in many cases, even better than their USA counter-parts especially when rewired with custom pickups!
