Earlier this week, Gameinformer released a huge list of questions and answers between the fan community and the Destiny’s development team. We already know about Dinklebot and the new subclasses. However, there are a few specific things Deej wanted address in more detail. Class Items Guardians no longer have to wear the class items for faction rep as they now offer bounties available to those who declare allegiance to that faction. Specific rewards exist for specific factions that the player can work towards rather than relying on randomness. Deej explains that clarity is key in The Taken King.
Blizzard on Overwatch Matchmaking
Normal Crucible is a casual PvP activity. Akin to Normal level Strikes. A PvP equivalent to Raiding would be something like a Ranked PvP mode where teams above a certain performance level get guaranteed loot rewards. And allowing a Matchmaking mode to such a PvP activity would be terrible as the random teams would get slaughtered and never really succeed while the organized teams get fed free ranking.
On a whole, the story-telling in Destiny 2: Forsaken’s campaign is a huge step above the base game and its expansions. One might dare say this is the natural evolution of The Taken King’s.
Last week, Bungie unveiled the first gameplay footage of the highly-anticipated sequel to Destiny, their first-person looter-shooter franchise. The 2nd full-length retail release in the series will drop this September, 3 years after the original launched to extremely mixed reviews. The long-running joke about Destiny was that D1 was just an extended beta test, with regards to all the issues that it launched with that were slowly ironed out over time. Amid the excitement from many fans of the franchise getting their first peak at the new title, there has also been a lot of backlash and disappointment from fans regarding the shortcomings of this new release that also came to light last week.
While not a tremendously big deal for many, particularly those who focus mainly on PvE content, many in the Destiny PvP community are disappointed by this news. Destiny has always looked and felt great running at 30FPS on consoles, and I have no doubt that it will continue to do both in the sequel, but a higher frame-rate in PvP modes could have seriously benefitted this franchise.
Outside of just a smoother looking experience, more frames means less kill trading which happens in Destiny more than any other PvP game I can remember and more fine-tuning sandbox adjustments available to Bungie.

Succeed and be rewarded! That was a PVP elimination tournament that ran every weekend. Guardians entered by purchasing a Trials Passage from Brother Vance for Glimmer, which would also serve to record their progress in the Trials.

Guardians Multiplayer Beta that was conducted December — January provided us with an abundance of data about our brand new matchmaking system and its performance. Studying that data from different angles, we learned many things about this dedicated cloud-based system, the most important of which was where we should invest in improvements. Since then, we’ve continued to collect and study data on how the matchmaking system is performing for our players.
There are a few areas where matchmaking is falling short of our goals and not providing the experience that we would prefer for all players. With this in mind, the services and multiplayer teams here at Industries have been hard at work at improving and fine tuning the Halo 5 matchmaking experience. Work continues on geographic, infrastructure and code-based solutions. Compared to the worldwide trend, these regions have a rise in the number of matches that have taken place on servers with a ping of ms or worse: Before the holidays, we felt optimistic about an improved version of matchmaking settings, which you might remember was tested in collaboration with the community.
After we analyzed the resulting data, we found that there were some very positive effects but even with the change there were still negative matchmaking conditions for some players. Those learnings led us to begin work on a set of infrastructure enhancements to provide more granular control over how our matchmaking settings can be tweaked, allowing us to better target the specific players being affected.
For example, one area that we’re very interested in is how a player’s skill rating and party composition contributes to matchmaking, and how we can tune settings to ensure that the skill gaps in a match are consistent with a great experience for all players, regardless of their present skill level and party makeup.

While Destiny 2 is primarily a PvE experience — you have to shoot at least some aliens to get anywhere — competitive multiplayer has been a key component from the beginning, with a thriving community on Twitch doing basically nothing else. Bungie has taken it much more seriously in the sequel, with controversial tweaks to abilities and weapon loadouts made in the name of PvP balance.

Tweet A few years ago, when Bungie rolled out the first public beta for Destiny, nobody really knew that the game was going to look like. Bungie packed the beta with a massive amount of content, including access to one of four open world areas that would be available in the retail release. In fact, on Thursday, Bungie community manager DeeJ took to the Bungie blog to highlight some of the changes that are being made for the upcoming PC beta.

The new matchmaking is coming Jan. PT, exactly 24 hours after the Rift-based Iron Banner event went live today. The daylong lag time will give Bungie “two sets of data to compare and scrutinize,” and it’s “all part of the plan,” said community manager David “DeeJ” Dague. Matchmaking is yet another element of Destiny that Bungie wasn’t properly equipped to update until the launch of The Taken King last September, according to the studio. The expansion provided Bungie with “a new system to better enable us to evaluate Guardians as combatants,” but players have continued to report issues with lag in the Crucible.
Bungie said it wants to continue to take skill into account along with connection quality when matching players up.
